After the novitiate he studied at Notre Dame, IN, earning his A.B. degree magna cum laude.

He was a consummate professional with an engaging and commanding voice. He was a disciplined and organized teacher who passed along those qualities to his students that went far beyond the classroom. His cheerfulness with the faculty and staff, amiable companionship and great love of the arts were qualities that were missed when he retired to Notre Dame.
